Shropshire Folklore Introduction Contents

I've been interested in folklore - and its modern counterpart 'the urban myth' - for some time now. I've lived in Shropshire now for 16-odd years (as of Y2K) and naturally become interested in the folklore of what someone once-termed "England's forgotten county". Personally, I like it that way: as A. E. Houseman wrote:-

"Into my heart an air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?

That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again."

(A Shropshire Lad XL, 1896)

There'll probably be other poetry scattered through this site - another passion of mine. At least these verses are apposite. Anyway, back to the folklore...
