Giants and Devils

There were giants on the earth in those days... (Genesis 6:4).

People have long been fascinated by the idea of giants - almost every country's folklore has its giant myths. Even today this myth has its resonance - a couple of years there was even a remake of the 50s drive-in classic Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. The definitive work on British giants - in both fact and legend - is, in my opinion, Anthony Roberts' Sowers of Thunder from which expansions of some these legends have been taken.

In folktales giants and devils are often interchangeable ... if the church couldn't suppress mythology it at least tried to enforce its own agenda and iconography ....
